The Art of the Interface in Mixed Realities: Predessors and Visions

The approach of this paper is broad and historical; it attempts to expand a narrow technical view by looking at historic art media together with contemporary media art. By focusing on recent art against the backdrop of historic developments, it is possible to better analyze and grasp what is really new in media art and, using cornerstones from the history of media of illusion and immersion, it is a material and theoretical contribution to a new, emerging discipline: the science of the image. Where and how does the new genre of virtual art fit into the art history of illusion and immersion in the image, that is, how do older elements continue to live on and influence this contemporary art? Telepräsenz: Zu Genealogie und Epistemologie von Interaktion und Simulation

Telepräsenz amalgamiert drei technologische Prinzipien: Robotik, Telekommunikation und Virtual Reality. So vermag ein Nutzer in einem virtuellen Environment per Telekommunikation durch einen ferngesteuerten Roboter in die Umwelt einzugreifen und umgekehrt ein sensuelles feedback zu empfangen, eine sinnliche Erfahrung des fernen Geschehens: Telepräsenz virtualisiert das, was eigentlich physikalisch-berührbare Existenz besitzt. Damit verknüpft Telepräsenz auch drei Langzeitprojekte der Ideengeschichte mitsamt ihren mythischen, magischen und utopischen Konnotationen: Dies sind zunächst der legendäre Traum vom künstlichen Leben und der Automation, die kunsthistorische Tradition Virtueller Realitäten sowie die Idee, den Körper zu verlassen, die okkulte Vorgeschichte der Telekommunikation. Um uns dem Phänomen Telepräsenz zu nähern, ihrer historischen, psychologischen und epistemologischen Komponente, müssen wir zu verstehen suchen, wie diese drei Themenfelder sich durch die Geschichte bewegen und in unseren technologischen Mythen und Phantasien zum Ausdruck kommen. Stets war Technikgeschichte zugleich Geschichte ihrer Utopien und Mythen, welche das menschliche Wollen offenbaren und einen prärationalen Referenzboden formieren. Weiterhin gilt: Antworten, welche Mythenstoffe liefern, erweisen sich immer wieder als offene Fragen, als etwas, was noch nicht an sein Ende gekommen ist

Els mestres d’educació primària a Mallorca

Aquest article ens permetrà conèixer una mica a fons un dels col·lectius més importants per a la normalització lingüística de la llengua catalana, que són els mestres. L’estudi es concreta en els mestres d’educació primària de Mallorca. Primer, en descriurem les característiques sociodemogràfiques i lingüístiques. I, després, el grau de coneixement i de domini lingüístic que autodeclaren els mestres, pel que fa a les quatre habilitats lingüístiques bàsiques i als aspectes lingüístics concrets de pronúncia, gramàtica, ortografia i vocabulari. L’eina d’investigació que hem emprat ha estat el qüestionari, i per al tractament estadístic de les dades, hem usat el SPSS (Statistical Package of Social Sciencie)Este artículo nos permitirá conocer más a fondo uno de los colectivos más importantes para la normalización lingüística de la lengua catalana, que son los maestros. El estudio se centra en los maestros de Educación Primaria de Mallorca. Entre octubre de 2007 i gener de 2008 es varen capturar 5 exemplars de Fistularia commersoni (Rüppell, 1835) en aigües de l’arxipèlag de les Illes Balears, observantse altres dos individus. Tots els indicadors assenyalen la seva procedència lessepsiana i és, per tant, la primera espècie íctica de l’Índic que arriba a les Illes Balears des de l’obertura del canal de Suez.Five individuals of the bluespotted cornetfish Fistularia commersonii (Rüppell, 1835) were captured off the Balearic Islands between October 2007 and January 2008, and other two individuals were reported from underwater observations. This is the first lessepsian fish species recorded around the Balearic Islands

Aquesta memòria d’investigació ens permetrà conèixer millor un dels col·lectius més importants per a la normalització del català, que són els mestres. L’estudi es concreta en els mestres d’Educació Primària de Mallorca. Primer, descriurem les característiques sociodemogràfiques i lingüístiques. I, després, analitzarem el grau de coneixement i de domini lingüístic que autodeclaren els mestres, pel que fa a les quatre habilitats lingüístiques bàsiques i als aspectes lingüístics concrets de pronúncia, gramàtica, ortografia i vocabulari. Tindrem en compte les variables del tipus de família, sexe, origen, llengua primera i edat. L’eina d’investigació que hem emprat ha estat el qüestionari; per al tractament estadístic de les dades, hem usat el SPSS (Statistical Package of Social Sciencie) i per a l’estudi no experimental ens hem basat en l’anàlisi de la variància (ANOVA)

RE@CT - Immersive Production and Delivery of Interactive 3D Content

International audienceThis paper describes the aims and concepts of the FP7 RE@CT project. Building upon the latest advances in 3D capture and free-viewpoint video RE@CT aims to revolutionise the production of realistic characters and significantly reduce costs by developing an automated process to extract and represent animated characters from actor performance capture in a multiple camera studio. The key innovation is the development of methods for analysis and representation of 3D video to allow reuse for real-time interactive animation. This will enable efficient authoring of interactive characters with video quality appearance and motion

Comparative study of the performance of three cross-flow ceramic membranes for water treatment

Several tests using water as effluent are used to analyse the performance of three types of microfiltration cross-flow ceramic membranes. Two of these membranes are commercial (Atech and Membralox/US Filter) and the third one is experimental. The main differences between them lie in their chemical composition (different origin of raw materials) and in their manufacturing process. The results presented here show the dominant effect of the filtering and the gel layer. Both are formed during operation acting as equalising agent between the three membranes. The membranes tested have similar performances in cross-flow operation, although permeability rates for the membrane Membralox/US Filter were about 15% higher. This increase might be due to the smoother surface formed by a second filtering ultrafiltration layer (0.01 ìm) of 10 ìm width, which probably contributes to a decrease in the thickness of the gel layer formed during operation. Using specific raw materials (non-industrial) as well as a second ultrafiltration layer improves the results in operation (performances and cleaning intervals). However, they are uneconomical because of the extra costs involved. In conclusion, low-cost membranes can achieve similar results to the commercial and more expensive ones opening up their application to new uses and emergent markets.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
